Creating a Dynamic Learning Environment Online by Leveraging Technology

Session Overview

This video was part of the July 2020 REMOTE: The Connected Faculty Summit

Teaching 100% online or even in a hybrid/blended environment doesn’t mean students have to receive a flat, less-than engaging experience compared to face-to-face instruction; however, faculty need to leverage technology to create a more dynamic learning environment. Professor Wade Hyde of Dallas College (formerly El Centro College of the DCCCD) teaches marketing, and he uses a wide variety of OER and free-for-use technologies to create an environment that outperforms even the most robust face-to-face instruction. Some of the platforms Hyde will demonstrate include Lumen Learning’s OER Waymaker personalized learning and messaging tools, Calendly online scheduling one-on-one conferences, and Portfolium to create experiential “real world” assessments.

Professor, Dallas College

Wade Hyde’s background spans over three decades of diversified marketing, public relations, customer relations, and technology communications experience from working with several nationally-recognized companies and organizations.

As a leading corporate communications executive for Blockbuster, Hyde concentrated on significantly improving trade, retail, and international media relations while this entertainment giant was undergoing significant management and fiscal changes.

He previously headed the financial communications department for FoxMeyer Corporation (now McKesson), a Fortune 500 $5.5 billion pharmaceutical distribution company where his team successfully guided the corporation through a period of extreme stock value declination, a bankruptcy, and a corporate merger.

Hyde is currently faculty and chair of the Marketing and Entrepreneurship programs at El Centro College, soon to be renamed Dallas College.
