Master Class for Teaching Online
About
The Master Class for Teaching Online is a two-week, asynchronous online workshop designed to facilitate peer sharing of strategies for designing and teaching online courses. Taught in Canvas, participants will complete activities with due dates as students, using pedagogy and technologies designed to enhance online learning. Workshop activities require approximately 5 – 8 hours per week to complete. While there are weekly assignment deadlines, there are no required synchronous sessions.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate proficient Canvas navigation from the student perspective.
- Describe key components of online student success.
- Apply question design principles to facilitate engaging class discussions.
- Summarize the benefits of adhering to the Quality Matters rubric.
- Use Bloom’s Taxonomy to write measurable learning outcomes.
- Analyze various pedagogical approaches for delivering course content online.
- Describe design techniques of effective presentations.
- Strategize approaches for implementing Master Class resources in your online course.
- Summarize the benefits of optimizing instructor presence in an online learning environment.
Experience
The core goal of Master Class for Teaching Online is to connect, build and foster a community of instructors and faculty. Through various course activities participants will have an opportunity to engage in discussion with one another to share ideas, stories, insights and innovations.
Participants are always from varied discipline, teaching, and online experience backgrounds which offers a diverse and broad range of experiences to share.
The course also aims to expose instructors to the student perspective of a learning experience to help inform how they teach online.
You will also be introduced to a number of technology tools that you may be interested in using in your course to support your learners and their learning experience.
ASU Online was well organized, people friendly, excellent tips & resources, great practice at all of that, and I can not thank you enough; I expected to HATE this, but I loved the whole thing, and was so eager to participate: THANK YOU!!!

Master Class for Teaching Online Graduates
Digital Credential
Upon completing the Master Class for Teaching Online with an overall score of 80% or higher, participants will receive a digital credential signifying their successful completion of the workshop.
The digital credential can be displayed publicly on various social media as well as shared with your peers, supervisors, program managers and others.
