Over a series of ten-minute learning sessions, we will discuss the history of instructional design, its models, and theories, along with its uses.

We will examine the 30 key instructional design milestones that have proven important in the field of learning. This first session will provide an overview of the major instructional design theories utilized today; such as discovery-based learning, inquiry-based learning, situated cognition theory, elaboration theory, and individualized instruction. How each theory can be applied to instruction and the reasons one might choose to utilize a specific theory for their course design will also be discussed. This series of presentations on instructional design is geared toward instructional designers, course developers and educators looking to expand their knowledge of the field and the tools available for designing courses for a 21st-century audience.

A new session will be made available by UTO Training each week through the end of 2018. For questions about this training contact Chris Lee at Christopher.nigel.lee@asu.edu and check out the ASU UTO website for upcoming workshops and studio hours at https://sites.google.com/a/asu.edu/utotraining/
